Easily Edified

I’ve been continuing to think about the concept of being Easily Edified. Not only does it imply an open heart, but also an expectant heart, and if one expects to be edified in any conversation, when listening to teaching, etc, they are more likely to be. For example, if one of my sisters begins to have a conversation with me, I can either expect to be edified or torn down. Whichever I try to expect I will probably get.

And I Quote

“Christians can’t multitask.” ~Alex and Brett Harris of The Rebelution

I’ve mentioned this article to a lot of people and thought it was high time I linked to it from my blog.

And I Quote

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” ~Edith Wharton

There are an important question that this statement brings to mind: Can I be a candle? We know that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God who is the ultimate light. Since we cannot be “light” on our own, the obvious conclusion is that the only way we, as humans, are able to spread light is to be a mirror to reflect the light of God. And of course, because the light does not come from ourselves, it is of no use to “praise the mirror” :)

Daddy's birthday gift

psalm128.jpg

Daddy’s birthday was last month and this is what I made for him. In case you can’t tell, each “olive plant” is labeled with one of our names. The “fruitful vine” has my mom’s name next to it.

Crazy Love--Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

This book by Francis Chan brings up some questions: God, the Awesome Creator of the Universe, has incredible unconditional love for us. Wouldn’t it make sense if we returned that love in any small human way possible? But do we?

Intrigued? Check it out at crazylovebook.com

The Mountain we all climb

Who has the bigger honor,

~the one who climbs the mountain, or

~the one who is born there?

The former has a long hard road to get to the top, with many setbacks, scrapes, and breaks. The latter still has some hardships, like thin air and living away from civilization, but so does everyone who fights their way to the top!

And I Quote

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” ~The Apostle Paul, inspired by God, written in a letter to the Ephesians, chapter 2, verse 10

This was one of the verses that we looked at at church. The pastor likened us, God’s workmanship, to wood in the hands of a master carpenter. I prefer to think of us as fabric and notions in the hands of a master sewer…

Obsessed

Reading through the entries on my blog, you probably think I’m obsessed with historical sewing. I probably am. But I am more obsessed with something else, or rather, Someone else. His name is Jesus. Some of you reading my blog know all about Him. For those of you who don’t, I’ll give a brief introduction to who He’s been to me.

He is my Refuge. Whenever I need a place of escape—when I feel overwhelmed, or upset—I go to Him. I feel it easier to be with Him when there’s no one else around, but if it’s not possible to leave, I talk to Him right where I am.

He is my Peace. I still struggle to trust Him fully, but I’m getting there. And when I finally learn to, I will have perfect Peace. He promised me, “[I] will keep in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on [me], because he trusts in [me].” (Isaiah 26:3)

He is my Lover, and my Love. I need no other to love me. That doesn’t mean that I don’t forget this at times and want someone else’s love, but it does mean that I will always know that Someone loves me. The most amazing thing is that I did nothing whatsoever to deserve this love. In fact, when He first loved me, I had made myself an enemy to Him. He still loved me, and eventually called me to Himself and taught me to love Himself.

He has been so much more to me, that I would never be able to write it all here. These three things have been the most important in my life, and I know that He has been other things in other peoples lives. The one thing that I know for a fact is that YOU need Him, and the things that He can provide you with. If you’ve already found Him, I rejoice with you. If you have not, know that I am praying that you might.
