I went to my first exhibit opening reception at the Tucson Museum of Art. The curator gave us a tour and explained how, over the course of three years, she found artists who used metal to create their artwork. Some simply painted on pieces of metal, others sculpted and cut the metal. Many of the artists traveled from all over North America to be at the reception. One of the artists I met was Jason Young, from Canada. His art was used on the metal invitation we got, which he autographed for me. We also enjoyed the food and live music.
Here’s the information from the TMA website:

Paint on Metal: Modern and Contemporary Explorations and Discoveries
This exhibition brings together modern and contemporary artists working with traditional painting and sculptural techniques, each with a common bond-the use of metal as the canvas or the form upon which color is applied in a symbiotic melding of surface and substrate.

Last Saturday I went to “The Gospel of John, a One Person, Live Performance of the Fourth Gospel in its Entirety”. Brad Sherrill, the performer, used so much emotion as he recited, that it was as if he was a storyteller telling a fairytale. He wasn’t though, all he said really happened. He changed the way I look at reading the Bible. Now I look at it more as a story, and even the parts like Psalms and Proverbs (which are not stories) are more appealing because it’s more real to me that God talks right to us, through the Bible.
