Hat fair 09
Update! Be sure to go to Janel’s site and vote for your favorite entry!
Miss Janel, who I “met” on the Sense and Sensibility message board, is hosting a Hat Fair!
In my post you will be introduced to my meager hat collection:
First is my favorite and newest hat—the green sunhat in the upper left corner. It offers the great sun protection, and is quite comfortable too. It also stays on nicely in the wind (most of the time) without the use of any type of tie or pin.
Next is my newly-finished corded sunbonnet. I created the pattern based on the information I could find about bonnets of this type made around the Civil War. Since it is white, it is a “nice” bonnet, able to be worn with a variety of outfits in many different settings.
Below that is my mid-19th century hat by Pam Robles. I haven’t really decorated it besides putting on a ribbon band to match the dress and occasion, but I would like to soon.
Finally is my oldest hat. It is broken on one side, but still wearable! I love the embroidered band—it’s so feminine!
I hope to expand my hat-wearing in the future. I’d especially like to learn how to make my own hats! In the meantime, I’ll just admire everyone else’s!
