Starting tomatos from suckers

A few years ago, I read “Square Foot Gardening” by Mel Bartholomew. In it, I found this interesting idea:

Let the suckers on tomato plants grow 4-14 inches long, then cut them off and simply place them in water (as in the picture above) to root them. Once they have roots, plant them just like any other transplant.

I have done this a few times when we have grown tomatos, but this year I decided to do it with almost all the suckers on all four of our tomato plants. I am planning to sell the starts at our homeschool group’s sale in June.
