She lays her hands to the spindle,
and her hands hold the distaff.

She opens her hand to the poor, yes,
she reaches out her filled hands to the needy

—Proverbs 31:19-20 (Amp.)

August, 2008

During the month of August we will be working on tiered skirts.

June, 2008

No meetings on June 17 or June 24.

July 29, 2006

We got to spend enough time in the clubhouse to finish the “Irish Chain” quilts. We used the left over material to make a “crazy quilt”.

We’re going to start meeting at Christ Community Church starting in August. Please pray for Mrs. Kishbaugh and I as we will be speaking in church on the 30th. We will also have an information table on the plaza that day.

June 21, 2006

In May, we sent a total of 14 blankets, 1 pillow, 1 baby dress & 1 baby overalls to Uganda! WOW!!!

In June, Mrs. Kimminau taught us how to make an “Irish Chain” quilt using the “quilt in a day” method. We all had a lot of fun!

We are all sad that the Kimminau family is moving to San Antonio this summer! Another disappointment is the loss of our clubhouse. The Atkinsons are also moving! (to a new home in Tucson) Stay tuned for future plans…

April 23, 2006

The blankets arrived in Nigeria! We hope to see some pictures soon of the kids with their blankets. The doctor who took them to the orphanage will be in Tucson soon—maybe we’ll get to meet him.

The Salvas have a relative that may be able to take some things to Uganda in June. We’d better keep up the good work!

Several girls are doing very well on finishing the edges of fleece blankets with the blanket stitch. Others are working on crocheting and knitting. I’ve also been helping girls to expand their sewing skills by making baby outfits (they’re so cute!)

Feel free to spread the word about our club—we need more mentors and possible “speakers” to do workshops.

February 20, 2006

Our final meeting for working on the quilts to send to Nigeria went well! It ends up that we’ll be sending a total of 7 blankets (including a few donated from others). We finished the “around the world” quilt and the quilt top we found is entirely finished also. The “quick quilt” didn’t get done in time because the machine that was embroidering started acting up.

Our next meeting will be held Monday Feb. 27 Thursday, March 2 starting around 1:30. We are hoping to “branch out” and do some other things besides quilts. We’ll see how it goes.

February 10, 2006

Here’s a summary of what we did Thurs. Feb. 9: We finished the checkerboard quilt!! We’ve also finished the top of our “around the world” quilt. We also got to start a new quilt. On each square we’re embroidering a virtue (Love, Joy, Peace, Hope, Mercy, etc.) to quilt it. The quilt top is being finished by Mrs. McHolm (one of the moms). We also had a crocheted blanket donated by my Grandma. In all, we’ll most likely send 5 quilts/blankets!!!

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, Feb. 16 from around 1:30 until we feel like stopping! :)

February 7, 2006

Our second meeting was great! Here’s a summary of what we did:

We continued work on the checkerboard quilt that we started at our first meeting and have almost finished it. The quilt top that we found also has an underside now. Toward the end of the meeting we started piecing a new quilt in an “around the world” pattern.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday February 9, at 1:30. Hopefully we’ll finish the quilts we’ve started and maybe even one more!

I have pictures of us hard at work here.

January 24, 2006

Our first meeting was a success! My original goal was to make one quilt to send with a missionary doctor to an orphanage in Nigeria. It ends up that we'll be sending at least 4!

Here is a summary of what we did: first, we found a few quilt tops that needed to be finished, so we began with those. We also started an all new quilt. In all, we worked on four quilts and are hoping to finish them at our next meeting which will be on Monday, January 30 from around 8:00am to noon (because these quilts need to get mailed in the beginning of Feb.) Anyone is welcome. Again, feel free to come at any time for as long as you like. You can also bring a snack for yourself or to share if you want.

January 22, 2006

Our first meeting is being held on Monday the 23rd, from 10:00 to 2:00. It is not necessary to be at this meeting for the entire time allotted, feel free to drop in for as long as you like!
